“Growing up, my dad, a public school teacher, always told me, “Make sure to learn as much as you can, because no one can take that away from you.” That advice has guided me throughout my life, and it’s why I’m so passionate about ensuring that every Nebraska child has access to a quality education.”

CREATING OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL NEBRASKA STUDENTS
-
Every child deserves the chance to succeed. We’ll strengthen reading programs, give extra help to students who need it, and make sure more kids cross that graduation stage ready for what’s next.
-
Great schools start with great teachers. We’ll support higher pay, better working conditions, and create faster, simpler paths for future teachers to join the classroom.
-
No one knows their schools better than local leaders. We’ll listen, collaborate, and make sure resources go where they’ll make the biggest difference for students.
-
College isn’t the only path to success. We’ll grow career and technical programs that help students learn real-world skills and connect them to good-paying jobs right here at home.
-
Every student deserves respect. We’ll promote safe, welcoming schools where all kids can learn and be themselves without fear or judgment.
-
A strong start makes all the difference. We’ll expand access to quality pre-K and early learning programs so every child is ready to thrive from day one.
-
Kids can’t learn if they’re not in school. We’ll work with families and communities to understand why students miss class—and help remove those barriers so they can get back to learning.
-
We’ll focus on clear, practical standards that teach critical thinking, creativity, and the real-world skills students need for college, career, and life.
-
After-school programs keep kids safe, learning, and engaged. We’ll support more opportunities for tutoring, clubs, and enrichment that help students grow beyond the school day.
MEET SHERRYE
Public Schools shaped me into who I am today. I come from a long line of public school teachers and administrators. I was the little girl in school board meetings. Growing up around educators gave me an understanding of the deep impact education can have on one's life.
After graduating from college, I moved to Omaha to work for Union Pacific. I spent more than 20 years working in corporate America, including for Union Pacific, Omaha Public Power District, and now Bellevue University. I earned a master’s degree in business administration from Creighton University in 2001. I am currently working on a doctorate in interdisciplinary education leadership at Creighton.
I've served on numerous boards, including the Omaha Chamber of Commerce, the Urban League, United Way of the Midlands, Women's Center for Advancement, Lauritzen Gardens, and 75 North Revitalization. Being a part of the community and serving it has always been a part of me. It's who I am.
I have been married to my best friend, Wes, for almost 3 decades. We are proud of our twin children, Miles and Maya, who both grew up in Omaha and are currently attending college.
My past 30 years have centered on objective decisions and policymaking that are representative and also focuses on the greater good.
